Happy 50th birthday Council House!

50 years to the day, Queen Elizabeth II officially opened Council House. We’re celebrating – and so can you!

Get down to Council House to view the 50th anniversary exhibition, on display on the ground floor. While you’re at it, why not take five to relax in the Supreme Court Gardens and take in the building’s individual style?

Has all this birthday celebrating got you in the mood for some research? The History Centre has photographs, publications, ephemera and much more in relation to the building. Another building piqued your interest? Get in contact with us and we can see what gems we can uncover for you.

Do you know where this artwork is?

This 10 metre long x 2.5 metre high glazed, ceramic tiled wall mural by Melbourne artist Tom Sanders (1925-) was created in 1971 to celebrate the opening of the Perth Concert Hall.

2013 is the 40th Anniversary of the Perth Concert Hall, which is managed by the Perth Theatre Trust. The City of Perth owns the building and manages the car park, and the State Government owns the land. .A small display about the Concert Hall can be seen in the foyer of Council House for the next three months.
